The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) was initially established in 2000 by the Gauteng Provincial Government as a supporting organisation focusing on effective project delivery in support of Gauteng Industrial Policy and other strategic initiatives within the automotive sector within the province. The AIDC primarily focuses on being a centre of excellence with a specific focus on the following areas: Automotive Investment Facilitation; Supplier Development, Supply Chain Development, Skills Development and Training, Enterprise Development and Incubation Programmes and a WorkHelp Contact Centre. Key to its strategic objectives, the AIDC is currently involved in a number of strategic interventions aimed at technical project conceptualisation, implementation and service delivery in primarily the automotive sector.
The AIDC's vision is to be the preferred provider of strategic solutions and Government projects to the South African automotive industry and mission is to escalate the global competitiveness of the Gauteng province. It aims to support the province's industrial development-related objectives and contribute to goals of continuous growth and sustainable job creation and skills development. The AIDC is setting the pace with innovative and strategically purposefully designed and developed models together with industry such as the first the Automotive Incubation Facility and the first Gauteng Automotive Learning Centre aimed at entrenching and enhancing the private-public partnership model within Gauteng. The AIDC has also developed a world class concept on creating an automotive manufacturing hub through the Tshwane Automotive City Concept which is a long term project and under development with key strategic partners.
